Ethical Commitments
As an IT leader, I feel having a strong sense of self grounded in ethical practices make navigating the corporate world easier and guilt free.
Integrity, honesty, and accountability are the ethical pillars of who I am. Who are you? As I’m two-thirds of the way through my career, I feel I’ve developed a strong sense of both self and how business is performed. Early in my career, like most, I took a job because of the name of a company or a new and exciting project as a way to advance my career. I compromised because of self-doubt, and I compromised out of respect for people’s opinions.
Fast-forward to today and Integrity sits at the center of everything I do. Who I am at school, home, work, and riding my bike is the same person. I don’t have one face for each facet of my life. For me, Integrity isn’t to be confused with morality. Integrity is doing what you said you are going to do when you said you are going to do it, the way it is intended to be done. Coupled with integrity are high levels of rigor in both honesty and accountability. I find myself being painfully honest with myself and holding myself to a high level of responsibility when it comes to ethical work behaviors.
